Caring For Your Epoxy Floor

The world typically won’t do much to their garage floors after there are initially installed.  However, there is a small grouping of individuals who want to have an epoxy concrete floor in their garage.  For these people, there are a few tasks and steps that they need to do to ensure the floor keeps their shine.

General maintenance

With everything, you want to perform general maintenance.  For your garage floors this usually means sweeping, mopping and ensuring that you don’t have a buildup of dirt and debris.  If you allow these to continue to build up, it may be possible that your floors will become scratched and worn.  If this happens, you may need to redo your epoxy.

Careful driving your car

When you pull your car into the garage, it can drag in dirt and other items that could damage your epoxy.  Make sure that you check your tires for any large stones or items that could cause damage.  If you drive your vehicle in areas that could pick up these items, consider washing your tires before heading home.

Watch what chemicals are used in your garage

Dealing with chemicals properly is very important no matter what type of flooring you have in your garage.  However, it is even more important that you watch what chemicals that you use.  Some chemicals will just sit on the surface of your floor and won’t have a reaction with your epoxy.  In other situations, with chemicals that have a high acid content or may contain materials that could damage the epoxy, you want to take extra care not to misuse or mistreat them.

Spot clean as needed

It may be a huge chore to mop and clean your entire floor.  In many cases this may be a waste of time or materials.  This is why it is a good idea that you have a small mop and bucket that you can use to spot mop areas.  This will help keep areas clean and prevent damage to more trafficked areas.
